CrossFit. The best Love Hate
relationship you can have!
When I first learned about CrossFit, like most
people, I was very intimidated. I was in the NAVY and had been to some
very difficult training programs and schools. The difference however, was that I was doing that
because I had to. My family and our future depended on it.
The first time I went by the gym to check it out, I
stood outside the glass watching these individuals suffer through an
exceptionally agonizing work out, and it occurred to me that they were doing
this to themselves. No one was forcing them to do it. No one was standing over
them screaming at them, to not quit. These people, were pushing themselves
further mentally and physically than the average american will ever experience.
Simply because they wanted to.
I wanted in.
Now after doing CrossFit for a little more than a
year, and experiencing this drive for myself, I have to stop and ask myself one
question:
Why would a perfectly sane
individual do them to themselves on a daily basis?
We all have our own reasons. We all have different
motives that drive us. We all have our "dark place" and once you find
it, there's no going back.
There is however, one common denominator that holds
true with everyone. One thing that we all understand, only because we
have experienced it, and we know what it feels like. No matter how long you have been a CrossFitter, you
know this feeling.
It is the knowledge that you are preparing yourself
for the unknowable. You are setting an example for your friends,
family, and children that shows them, "Hey, life's tough and sometimes you have to
search your soul, dig deep, and push harder."This is a knowledge that we have come to embrace
and protect, and want to share with others. It is something that you
have to experience to fully understand.
So what are you waiting
for! Make the change and be the example!
