Pain. Frustration. Anger. Determination.
What is it that drives an individual to these extreme emotions?
More importantly, what is it that keeps them coming back on a daily basis?
Begging for more.
The answers vary, but one common thread remains:
Results. Not just physical, but psychological, emotional, physiological, and more.
It is the unwavering knowledge that you have completed something that the majority of society would deem "crazy." "Unnecessary." "Cultish."
And they're right- you are crazy.
The missing pieces of flesh, torn from your hands during pull ups, are a constant reminder of your dedication to "crazy."
The agony that has become your lungs during your third round of a 400 meter sprint, is far from anything enjoyable. You have to be a little insane to even consider starting that third round.
But you do.
Not because you are forced to; but because you want it. You need it.
WOD after grueling WOD, you tell that burning sensation in your quads to "shut the hell up" and you keep on squatting.
Because you've experienced that end result.
It's not something that can be obtained on a stair master or doing crunches during the commercial break of your favorite TV sitcom. Get off the wheel Hamster!
It is something that is learned while suffering through these experiences with your peers, who are just as crazy as yourself. That takes serious mental fortitude.
That same mental fortitude that brings you back everyday, wanting that burn. That adrenaline rush.
That anxiety as you walk into your gym and see the most offensive four letter word ever created- FRAN.
You will never be able to explain your "insanity" to someone who has never experienced these results. They must learn this lesson on their own.
So next time someone asks you what CrossFit is, have them come down and experience it for themselves; because it truly is a one of a kind experience.
